Yesterday, World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the growing monkeypox outbreak a global emergency.
Given the sharp increase in cases over the past month, health authorities are urging countries to increase monitoring for the disease, as well as purchasing newer vaccines.
While Australia has few cases compared to the rest of the world, there is still potential for it to spread throughout the country.
